Accessibility
At Urban Heat Sauna we want everyone to feel welcome. Our space is located in a railway arch at 347 Camberwell Station Road, and we’re still working on improving accessibility as much as we can. Here’s what you can expect when visiting:
Getting Here

The nearest Blue Badge bays are on Denmark Hill (outside King’s College Hospital) and Camberwell New Road (approx. 500–700m away).
Cycling: There are public cycle stands on Camberwell Station Road.
Taxis/drop-off: Taxis and private hire can drop off directly outside the arch entrance.
Please note: As we are located in a railway arch, you may hear and feel occasional noise or vibration from trains passing overhead. This is normal for the space and part of the character of the arches.
Entrance
The main entrance is step-free and be accessed at street level (for wheelchair and buggy access)
Double doors open to a clear width of 1600mm.
Inside the space
The lounge, café area and indoor changing rooms are all step-free and on the same floor.
There are no internal steps between entrance, lounge and café.
The sauna, showers and ice baths all require steps (see below).
Sauna
The sauna is elevated one step above ground level.
Entrance is currently not wide enough for wheelchair access.
Changing rooms
We have four individual changing rooms, each step-free.
Each cubicle has a bench for seating
Showers & Ice Baths
Outdoor showers are on a raised wooden decking platform (approx. 30cm step up).
Ice baths have a raised lip (approx. 50cm high) which you must step over and lower yourself into.
Toilets
There is a step-free accessible toilet located near the changing rooms.
Ground surface
The indoor area has smooth concrete floors which are covered with a rug in the lounge.
Rubber slip-proof matting covers the floor area housing the sauna, changing rooms, lockers and WC.
The outdoor area is a mix of concrete and raised wooden decking.
Some areas have grated plastic drainage mats with small lips.
The ground can get wet and slippery - we recommend wearing flip flops or waterproof shoes.
Lighting & environment
Outdoors is lit with festoon lights, two bulkhead wall lights, and one sensor/emergency light. Lighting is low level and atmospheric, not bright.
Indoors is softly lit with lamps and overhead lighting.
Please note: the sauna environment is hot and steamy, with sudden changes in temperature when using showers or ice baths.
Seating
Indoors: sofas and floor cushions in the lounge/café.
Outdoors: garden furniture and tables.
